Other people dont understand the question. Its more like this....
"Whats the difference between Catholics and (Protestant) Christians?"

Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints even though Jesus said the only way to the Father is through Him. (Catholics also use priests as a link between God and man, therefor replacing Jesus' role.)

Catholics think that the bread and wine is the literal body and blood of Jesus Christ being sacrificed over and over again every week even though Jesus died ONCE so that all sins would be forgiven.

Catholics have statues of Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and the saints despite the second commandment saying that we shall not have any image of that which is in heaven or on earth.

Catholics deal with the last problem by leaving out that commandment and splitting the last one (thou shalt not covet) into two parts...thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife and thou shalt not covet thy neighbors possessions.

Catholics have added books to the Bible that were viewed as erroneous for hundreds of years.

There are more but those are a few.

Protestants are called Protestants because they are protesting the errors of the Catholic Church.

Catholics folow in the papacy. They believe that whatever the pope declares on earth, God will declare in heaven. In this regard, the pope is infallible just as God is infallible.

Lutherans are the result of the protestant reformation, of which Martin Luther was a major contributor.

Lutheranism is very similar to Catholicism except for allegance to the pope. Also, Lutheranism teaches reliance on God's divine grace, while Catholicism is teaches that good works are a necessary part of salvation.

The Lutheran does not believe in praying for the Saints, and Mary and so on, they however, believe in praying to God through Jesus only. The Lutherans have the assurance of salvation, but the Catholics do not.

Two of the differences which come to mind this late at night are:

I think Roman Catholic doctrine is transubstantiation and Lutheran is consubstantiation.

Also, most Roman Catholic priests are supposed to be single and celibate; most Lutheran Pastors/Ministers are or can be married.

The Holy Apostolic Catholic Church holds all truths regarding faith and morals which Christ gave Peter our first Pope and has not changed the saving teachings of Jesus Christ since its inception 2000 yrs ago. The church holds all seven Blessed Sacraments, baptism, the Holy Eucharist, Sacrament of reconciliation, confirmation, Holy Matrimony, Holy Orders, Annoiting of the sick.

Of the Sacraments: Lutherans believe that there are but two sacraments: Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. All other important rites and ceremonies — such as Confirmation and Holy Matrimony — are not considered sacraments within the Lutheran church
Of Salvation and Grace: Lutherans believe in salvation by the power of the Grace of God. Luther defined and taught the doctrine of justification by Grace through Faith. This doctrine explains that the path to salvation is "by Grace alone, through Faith alone,
Catholic belief
. Good Works in Sanctifying Grace are Necessary for Salvation
Neh. 13:14, Psalm 11:7,28:4, Isa. 3:10, 59:18, Jer. 25:14, 50:29, Ezek. 9:10, 11:21, 36:19, Hos. 4:9, 9:15, 12:2, Sir. 16:12,14 - The 2,000 year-old Catholic position on salvation is that we are saved by Jesus Christ and Him alone (cf. Acts 15:11; Eph. 2:5). But by the grace of Christ, we achieve the salvation God desires for us through perseverance in both faith and works. Many Protestants, on the other hand, believe that one just has to accept Jesus as personal Lord and Savior to be saved, and good works are not necessary (they just flow from those already saved). But these verses, and many others, teach us that our performance of good works is necessary for our salvation. Scripture also does not teach that good works distinguish those who are eternally saved from those who are not saved.

There are many more differences too many to list here

The Lutheran priests or ministers (I don't know the difference) can be married. The Lutherans don't have an alter for Mary. There are lots of little differences.

There is no such thing as a better religion. Just try to see that all religions were made for their own people's welfare and all are equal.
