My 8 month old rotty had her spay surgery when she was about 5 months old. Her scar healed nicely. Just recently i looked at the scar site and I found about 3 or 4 nickel to dime size lumps. Is this normal, or something to be concerned about?

It's scare tissue called keloids. People develop them. Some people develop a deep red raised area where they have surgery. It's the same way with dogs and cats. One of my dogs was spayed and had mammary tumors removed at the same time. She was a rescue dog. Her little belly looked like a road map from all the scar tissue, but she lived a very happy life to a ripe old age.

It is usually just scar tissue, it should disappear or at least diminish over time, It took about 4 month for the lumps to disappear from my little one after she was spayed.

Yes. My chihuahua has a large nickle size lump near her scar. Oh, and she's 12 years old. She was spayed at 6 mos.

It may be scar tissue but if you are that worried, take her to the vet. Nickle size is rather large for scar tissue from a spay surgery. If she were mine, she would see the vet.
Good Luck.

She is probably reacting to the internal sutures that are breaking down and dissolving. It should pose no problems, but watch them and make sure they do not start to look infected. If you see a big change in their appearance, call your vet and have him check it out.

since it has not been long, i can assume this is the tissue where the pulled the skin back to getter and stitched! i would not worry to much about it yet! keep and eye on it and if they get bigger or red and irritated, then take her to the vet..!!

My dog had this same thing. Her bumps sort of went away as she grew, but not entirely. The vet said it was nothing to worry about.
