Ive heard that people get placed on waiting lists when wanting to adopt a child. Is there really a shortage of orphans?

I think its a normal procedure.
there's so many kids with no families in the world, not just babies, teens too, wich is sad because most people only want to adopt babies.
But, adopting and giving love is one of the noblest thing a person can do.

It depends on where you live...the regulations regarding the adoption requirements and rules. It also depends on where you're adopting the child from. This is because certain countries are stricter than others. There are truly a lot of orphans--but most people who are interested in adopting want infants who resemble them, or because older children may have complex psychological and social problems.

There is NO shortage of children that need to be adopted, only a shortage of infants. People want to adopt infants, usually, so they tend to get 'snatched up' right away.

Also, it is very time-consuming and costly to adopt, and makes it hard for people who would be willing to open their homes to an older child unable to. The system is unfortunately flawed, but I don't know how to fix it.

No, just caucasian infants with blond hair and blue eyes.

Seriously, you wouldn't believe how prejudiced people can be about adopting kids. They want an infant or nothing, and he or she has to look like them.

It is an unfortunate fact that minority orphans are far less likely to be adopted than white kids. Please be open minded and consider the needs of the children over your own desires!

yes, because not as many babies are given up anymore. There are no parents worried about what society will think of them if their daughters are pregnant out of wedlock, and abortion is too easy.

apparently, it is easier to adopt a child from a third world country, but not too sure.

The waiting list usually has to do with background checks and other administrative things. There is alot of paperwork involved and it takes quite a while to finalize things.

If you're serious about adoption and open minded you may try an open adoption.
