Just listen to your folks. If I had gotten the tattoo I wanted to get when I was in high school, I'd have gotten Bon Jovi's "Slippery when Wet" logo on my bum. Trust me, they know what they are talking about.......You have the rest of your life to get crap all over your skin and holes in your face.

Listen to them. Repeat after me: A tattoo is for life, it will last as long as herpes & diamonds.

I don't know how old you are, but I have a feeling that what you like today you aren't going to like or think is cool 1yr, 5yr, 10yr ... from now. Just think of all the stupid tattoos out there that people are embarrassed of.

Since they are a life choice, you should spend more time thinking about the tattoo and how it represents you and will continue to represent you if you are determined to get one. It should have personal meaning.

And because they are a life choice, there isn't a reason in the world why if you know what you want, make your parents happy & wait to get it. I have a feeling that if yoiu wait, you will end up not wanting that design when you are done waiting. & whatever choice you make, don't get the flash.

You're only 18. You have the rest of your life to get a tattoo. Wait until you are supporting yourself and a true, responsible adult. I know it's difficult reading that, especially after all of the morons above me who responded that tattoos are trashy and/or you shouldn't get one at all, but what I'm saying is just wait until you're on your own and can afford to support yourself... this makes you much easier to take seriously when making decisions that affect your personal life.

I say live your life for you...don't not get one just because your parents say no! You are an adult now and are in charge of making your own decisions without parental input (unless of course you want it). The only advice I have is to really think about what you want to get and why because too many people do it on impulse and end up hating whatever they got years later and then end up either covering it up or getting it removed. I have two tattoos and I thought about both of them for almost a year each before I actually got them done just to be sure that it was something I wanted on my body for the rest of my life!

wait until your financially stable enough to pay for one on your own! That's what i did and my mother still loves me! she likes the tattoos that i got actually! She was against it at first but she came around after about 2 months of her seeing it everytime I came over! I'm 23 and I waited and it was worth the wait in my eyes!

Do what I did, wait until your 18 and then go get one if they dont like it tell them that its too bad. You are your own person, dont let them tell you how to be you! Use the time you have before you turn 18 to find out what kind of tattoo you really want to get, look at tons of magazenes and the internet!

try a stick-on or a henna and live with it a bit. or let your parents "accidently" see it, so you can get a preview of the fireworks - or acceptance. Otherwise, if you really can't wait get a small, discreet something, which you can add to later. But please, go to a clean, reputable tattoo artist while you are sober.

I got my first tattoo when I was 19, my parents were against it but they got over it, ya a lot of yelling and saying how trashy it is but this is something that my best friend and I did together conversation piece. It's forever so be sure that what you get you can live with.

Wait until you're done with school. They're helping you, so respect their wishes untlil you're self-sufficient, then go for it!

Wait til you're 18 and get one then.
However, I suggest never getting a tattoo. You won't regret simply living in your own skin. You'll forever be outgrowing whatever tattoo you choose.
