First of all, you DO know that you have sciatic nerve pain from your back!!!!! That is why your leg becomes numb, it has to do with your spinal cord..........i know all this cause i have severe scoliosis and degenerative joint disease....Last yr. i had to 2 major back surgeries and they finally ended up fusing my lumber (lower back). My legs still hurt bad mainly at night. So i am on some pretty heavy pain pills Fentynal patch and vicodin for breakthrough pain. I was doing physical therapy for my back when my hip starting killing me and my knee blew up so i went to this ortho Dr and said i had to have a total hip replacement!!!!!!!!!! So 2 weeks ago i had knee surgery...it was minor day survey....i had to have this done cause i can't do rehab on my hip with a bum knee!!! OH! A chiropractor will not TOUCH me cause of the lumber surgery!!!! I recommend you go to a specialist....a spine surgeon ASAP. The longer you wait the worst it will get! And also to a Pain Specialist or Pain Clinic!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you start to feel better soon....oh! and you can have sciatic pain can be in both legs.....and i KNOW how bad it hurts so GOOD luck and get well soon.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A chiropractor may be able to help this. It really depends on how the nerve is being pinched. Chiropractic is the least invasive treatment as it works by realigning the disks and verterbrae in the spine. This might remove the pressure from the nerve.

Alternately, allopathic medicine might have some options. Injections or pills may deaden the pain. Orthopedic surgeons may have a surgical option. These aren't always successful. I'd try chiropractic, and go from there. If it doesn't work, all you've lost is time. If it does, you've saved yourself potential surgery and nerve blocking techniques.

Well
Though sciatica is a common problem, it is really surprising that often it is hard to tell why a person suffers from this ailment. This is why it is often referred to as a back pain complex. Even experienced doctors find it difficult to pinpoint a cause. Number of medical conditions lead to sciatica such as stress and trauma at any point on spinal cord or lower back. This is understandable but when a person feels this pain and the underlying causes are as general as obesity or pregnancy, it presents a vague picture to the doctor. There can be many more underlying causes that require supervision and treatment at the right time.

Check here a very effective sciatica natural treatment http://cure-sciatica.info
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Your sciatic may be pinched, so you would really benefit from going to a chiropractor. There are a few things that you can do at home to try to elivate the pain, but it is only one for a short while just to return with a vengeance. I have had nothing but good results with seeing a chiropractor. And the results are almost immediate.

Well, if you have never been to the doctor about this issue, you should definitely see one. Not sure what can be done for this issue though. I suggest trying acupuncture to relieve some of the pain.
