AGREE THAT HE NEEDS INTENSE THERAPY COMBINED WITH JOB TRAINING. SHE IS NOT AWARE OF A FACILITY IN GEORGIA THAT HOUSES THE MENTALLY ILL, EDUCATES THEM ABOUT THEIR ILLNESS, HAS CONTINUED INTENSE THERAPY,HELPS THEM RE-ENTER INTO SOCIETY, AND HAS JOB TRAINING. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR WEBSITES, BUT THOUGHT MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE HAS GONE THRU THIS UNFORTUNATE SITUATION AND MIGHT KNOW OF A FACILITY OR AT LEAST A STARTING POINT TO FIND SUCH A FACILITY. MAYBE A FACILITY IN ANOTHER STATE MAY ALSO HAVE A FACILITY IN GEORGIA. PLEASE ONLY SERIOUS RESPONSES. THIS IS MY SON'S AND MY LIFE - IT'S NOT A JOKE. THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR RESPONSE.
when i clicked the next button i was told using all caps is rude - i'm sorry if the all caps has offended anyone - i just want the name of a facility. thank you

You did not say whether he has a substance abuse problem as mental illness and drugs go hand in hand....as one uses alcohol or drugs to medicate themselves when they are not taking prescribed meds...I think it is very difficult for a young person in their 20's to accept a mental illness diagnosis....been there and done that...be very careful where you put him without a lot of research and good referrals...Our greatest help came from Austin Recovery Center in Austin, Texas....the head of admissions is Cindy and she will discuss anything with you and is very knowledgeable about all of these problems. After a family member got out of Austin recovery, they found a 3/4 house where he made a commitment to live with 9 guys.for a full year. (they had to have a job of some kind)...they had house rules, etc....if they didn't follow the rules, they got kicke d out.....he has been clean, taking meds, etc....it is a non profit organization which is run by christian people (not religious nuts, I promise)...with a chaplain, etc.....call information for Austin Recovery Center in Austin , Texas and ask to speak with Cindy....tell her Gail said to call...It runs 7000.00 for 5 weeks or longer which is less than half what the for profit treatment centers usually run...they have an in house psychiatrist. If your son doesn't have any substance abuse problems whatsoever, Cindy can tell you where to go....I would be shocked if he did'nt have these problems along with mental illness. God Bless

Gosh. Did you check with your Mental Health Dept? What about NAMI website? It's tough, I know. I am also sure there is help in your area. Does your child have a caseworker with the State?
Sometimes all people don't know all things. The person you are working with through the courts may not have enough info. I have a son who is bipolar so I wish you luck.

Try a website...

http://www.NAMI.com

National Association of Mentally Ill

There are many other services out there. Just type in the medical (MENTAL) condition and some key words like "GEORGIA STATE" and Mental Health... Type this and any other thing that makes sense into your Yahoo search bar...you will be amazed.
