I am a thread count maniac, and a luxury bedsheet lover. I have tried lots of sheets, and by far the dreamiest are the beech/modal sheets exclusively available at Bed Bath & Beyond. They are divinely soft, easy to care for (wash and dry), and get stronger yet softer with each washing. Check out the link below to order online, or shop in the store if one is near you. The retailer often has 20% off coupons, and even accepts coupons from competitors (like Linens and Things).

What a great gift! Always look for the "thread count". Feel free to ask a clerk at the store to see sheets with the HIGHEST thread count. These are the softest!! 100% cotton and will last and last. These will be expensive. There are many "sizes" of thread counts, look around. If you can't afford these, at least invest in the pillow cases. Your Mom's face will be thrilled!

Go with answer number one, BUT mainly for the high thread count. 600 or higher.
I also agree that flannel is a comfy sheet, but not as durable, nor will it retain a smooth feel over time.

For wintertime-Christmas, get her a set of Martha Stewart jersey sheets. The most comfy snuggling warmest sheets I've ever had. Far above fannel sheets & top sheet hugs your body, you'll wonder why you feel no drafty air pocket & thats because the jersy isn't crispy feeling,it's body shaping huggy feeling.
Get a set for yourself & try them before you give a set to your mom, then you'll see what I'm talking about.
Get her a new pair of toasty house shoes also to slide her toesy's into when crawling out of jersey sheets.

Flannel sheets are so warm in the winter, you would never buy them for your self but like when you get it as a gift.

600 thread count is going to cost you a lot of money, any thing over 400 is fine.
