You are walking down a road and you encounter a fork in the road and you do not know the correct way to go. There are two men standing at the junction and both know the correct road. One man always lies, and the other man always tells the truth, but you do not know who is the liar and who is the one who tells the truth. You can only ask each man one question, but it must be the same question for both. What is the question that would allow you to get the information necessary to choose the correct path?

You ask each one what the other would say. Then you go the opposite way. Say choice A is the correct way. Ask the liar what the other man will say and he will lie and say B. Ask the honest man what the liar would say and he will also say B.

You can ask this question to both of them. "If i ask the other person, which road is the correct road, which road he would point to?"

If you are asking the truthfull person he will point towards the incorrect road coz the liar will point to the incorrect road. If you ask the liar, he will point to the incorret road again coz he know that the other person i.e. the truthfull person will point towards the correct road. So the answer of boththe personwill be the same adn this is the incorrect road. So by asking the same question to both of them, I will come to know that the road pointed by both of them is the incorrect one.

ask them what is 1+1 ... the person that is a liar will always say anything but 2 & the person who is telling the truth will always say 2.

What would your brother say is the correct road?

Go the other way. They'll give you the same direction.

"If the other guy were to lie to me, would he tell me your road is the wrong way?"

If the one who was telling the truth was by the wrong way, he would say no. If he was by the right way, he would say yes.

If the one who was lying was by the wrong way, he would say yes. If he was by the right way, he would say no.

I learned this as a "yes" or "no" answer only question, though, and you only get to ask one of the men the question.

I would ask them to point me in the right way, I would have a 50/50 chance of going the right way. I'm willing to take that risk
