Thanks for the input on the pureed issue. As for the 2nd question, I am going to call the restaurant where I purchased the cranberries/nut thing for salad and ask them what do they consider it. Thanks everyone!!!

First, canned pumpkin is made from real pumpkins, but probably has lots of things added to it to make it last longer and enhance its flavor. pureed pumpkin is fresh pumpkins that you cut open, roast, and then scoop the meat away from the shell and puree it. The fresh is much better. And sugar pumpkins are the best to use for pie and soup.
Second, I don't know that there is a name for nuts and fruits on a salad, they're just accompaniments to the salad.

There is no difference between canned and pureed pumpkin. Canned pumpkin is pureed pumpkin. There are no preservatives in canned pumpkin. If you look on the label of Libby's brand or any organic canned pumpkin it will have one ingredient - "pumpkin." Just make sure it's the canned pumpkin that has nothing in it because there is a canned pumpkin that is pumpkin pie filling. This has spices and sugar.

2nd.... I don't think there is a name for mixtures of anything that top a salad unless you want to call them sprinklings or toppings.

Pureed (fresh) pumpkin doesn't have all the chemical additives for stabilization and extended shelf life. Otherwise, they are the same thing and can be used the same ways.

As for part two: I've seen something similar sold as a product called "Salad Toppin's" There were several different blends of things like you describe. Haven't seen them for a long while though, so they may not still be on the market.

The difference between canned pumpkin and pureed is the preservatives they put in canned pumpkin to make it last longer. And I don't know about the other stuff. But it sounds good, I hope someone else knows the answer!!

Nothing really about the pumpkin canned and pureed. Canned pumpkin is pureed pumpkin. If you cook your own pumpkin then you need to puree it in cooking of cakes, cookies, and such.

I am not sure what you are asking in the second question.

Canned pumpkin is pureed pumpkin. As long as it is not pumpkin pie filling (Libby's makes both), that's ready to bake pumpkin pie. I don't know what that salad topping is, but it sounds good.

Pureed pumpkin is simply fresher than canned pumpkin. It tastes much better when used in pumpkin pie (the pureed), just as any fresh vegetable is better tasting than a canned vegetable.

I'm not sure there is a difference between canned and pureed pumpkin. So my answer would be none.
