You don't have to be Christian to have values. I am a Christian, but there is so much of a holier than thou attitude that permeates Christianity that it turns many people off. We can all agree with certain basic principles of basic human decency.
You don't have to believe in a higher being to honor and respect others.

In a strict religious sense, Atheist and Christians would have common ground in the basic moral beliefs e.g. Killing is bad, Stealing is bad, etc. Other than that I don't see anything else, they could find common ground if its in other sectors like nationalism.

They find common ground in the fact that they both want to help the needy, hungry and sick.
They really are the same heartwise .They just have different reasons to do it .
Christians do it because they believe it to be in their bible and it was asked by jesus to do it in order to get to heaven .
Atheists do it because they are just kind and considerate of others .They don`t feel obligated to do these things in order to go to heaven .
It just makes them feel good.
Together they both do a lot for others ,but their motives are completely opposite.

I am an ex-catholic, so a Christian, and still a believer in Christ as a great Man!...But there is only ONE God!!!, and being a "SPIRIT", ITS name is not Jesus nor Christ. And it is not a Male but is a SHE/HE/IT in other words ALL (Creation) in ONE (Creator)... Jesus would turn over on his cross if he knew what has been done in his name. His friends called him "rabbi" or "teacher", not GOD!! or "son of God". Anyone who believes in the ONE is the "son of the ONE"!! or a creation of the ONE!! according to JOHN (with license). There is only the CREATOR (ONE) and the CREATION (ALL). And the ALL (Creation) is created "from" the ONE (Creator).
The common ground between Christians, Atheists and all other religions is in the name of the CREATOR. IT can be touhgt of as JOHN would say in John 1 (the Greek version, before the translations), as the LOGOS in other words, as "LOGIC" as defined by SOUND using WORDS. (IT got translated as "the WORD" by "simple folks" for "simple folks". So the ONE (God) or the ALL (Creation) has to make sense. There has to be some "logic" or "logos" behind it. The ALL (Creation) if seen in depth, has "beauty, symetry, is logical, makes sense (even at the cosmological and at the quantuum realms). Atheists have no problem with the ONE as it is "numeric, neutral, is not gender-based" etc...and is not a myth, as everything in the UNIVERSE can be taken down to ONE even matter (with string theory or M theory), which could be the harbinger of the TOE (or theory of everything)
The ONE does not play favourites, is not emotional, (jealous, angry, warring, etc..) and is not a PERSON (Father, Mother, Son, Daughter).
The word "GOD" is from a Germanic tribe, the Goth, that invaded Rome in the 4th century with their cousins the "Visigoth (children of Goth or God, and the Vandals, that gave us "vandalism". God is not the word used by Jesus or the Jews but is probably "Yahweh" (Jehova) or "Elohim". And LORD is too lowly for the Creator of ALL (Creation).
The Muslims use ALLAH, and other religions all have a name for the ONE or the CREATOR...
As we are becoming a GLOBAL civilization and will soon deal with the global problems of pollution, poverty, disease, war, and even cosmic events such as the danger of "meteors" that could end our "evolution" for a long time, we must resolve and unite our points of conflict, and Religion is a major one. And the names for the Creator are basic to the "divisions" between the various Religions. The tribal names used for the ONE or the CREATOR, has kept those disillusionned by the corruption and the scandals in Religion in general to become the "atheists", or those who don't believe in THAT "GOD". Those Atheists are still "hard-wired" for the Mystical experience and as they turn to philosophies as Buddhism and other "isms", they still are not really "non believers" but are "non believers" in the traditional meaning of the concept of GOD. The myths that predominate the traditional concept of "God", are too prevalent to prevent further "corruption" and scandals and abuse and will not UNITE the rest of the moderates of various Religions around it.
The ONE would gather the logical and the thinkers who are usually the "moderates" in most religions and would take away the source of "funding" that the "extremists" who usually are driven by power, and who get access to these pools of the symbols of power to create their "evil deeds", such as the divisions and even to the "CRIME" of war.
The word "ONE" is made up of two open sounding vowels representing energy nurturing or even creating one close sounding consonnant, representing matter. The word God is the opposite. In the word "God", the energy of ONE vowell is trapped by the hard sounding (gutteral) consonnants.
ONE is SOMETHING (a real number) so does not represent the ILLUSION but represents REALITY. The Buddhist ZERO represents the NOTHING ofthe "emptiness" and could be the philosophical (human) complement to the "theist" ONE!! for a perfect "binary" (1 and 0) complementarity.
On one side of ONE is TWO, for the MIND or the DUALITY of the ILLUSION of the "Physical World" when it is not UNITED as ONE. On the other side next to the complimentary ZERO is the negative numbers that are in the "intuition", "imaginary" or even the "fantasy". TIME and INFINITY are of the "imaginary" or the "abstract".
ONE (the CREATOR) is ALL (the CREATION) and ALL is ONE!
ONE adds to ALL when ONE is brought in and adds energy to that "unit". ONE does not reduce by dividing. Anything divided by ONE leaves the "anything" unaffected, or "free". Anything multiplies by ONE leave the "thing" as is, so "unaffected" and FREE. ONE is not a TYRANT!!
A little POEM:
B-4, B-3, B-2
Before be two, be ONE!!!

Well,...
We both eat food, breath air, raise families, etc.,. We're both human.
Beyond that, our differences are a chasm. The two philosophies are mutually exclusive. You can't bring such polar opposites together.

We each believe that we each have free-will. I think that's pretty much it.
We all have free-will, and we each feel the other is making the wrong decision.
From there, we disagree on every point.

We both could be concerned for the environment and protecting it ... though maybe for different reasons.
Or, as many religions do, work together to eliminate certain diseases.
