Is there anyway to make your metabolism run faster? Part of the reason I might have a hard time losing weight is because I find that even if I eat the same quantity of food as others, I may have a slower metabolism?

Any tips appreciated. =D

Hmmm... I always eat oatmeal, applesauce, sometimes a banana, and milk for breakfast, so that's not a problem.

Does exercise have to do with it?

And... I've heard that being anorexic can slow down your metabolism - is that true?

Easy answer. Exercise. By exercising regularily, your metabolism kicks it up a notch automatically. Doing cardio three days a week will help. Mixing in a little weight lifting around the cardio helps even more.

So, not only does exercising burn calories, it also makes your body better at losing weight and makes you healthier

Metabolism problems can happen for all sorts of reasons. You might want to have your thyroid checked. Barring any medical reasons you might want to try eating smaller more frequent meals. Our metabolism slows down, because our bodies go into "starvation mode" out of fear of not getting enough food, so it stops processing food quickly. This was an important survival technique as we evolved and food sources became scarce, as they still do in some parts of the world. In developed countries though people believe they can lose weight by not eating; the reality is that slows your metabolism down and causes you to gain weight. The key is to eat smaller more frequent meals. The thinnest people often just graze all day long- start with lots of raw fruits and veggies, because they will process through your body more quickly, and drink lots of water it is like the fluid in a car radiator.

Detox. Try going on the 24 hour fruit juice detox diet. Just natural fruit juice without sugars or preservatives. After that, start your days with hot water and lemon or cranberry/green tea. Then, have a light breakfast like the special K or whatever. Exercise can also help your metabolism pick up. You shouldn't try pills unless there is nothing else that works.

Lift weights. A pound of fat burns more calories per hour. You can definitely increase your metabolism by lifting weights and building muscle.

Green Tea is supposed to work. Best if you get the tea that is made from actual leaves rather than the regular Lipton stuff.
