No matter what my 2 (he will be 3 in Dec) yr old constantly takes off his socks /house shoes inside the house. I keep telling him that he will catch a cold. But every time i look up his houseshoes are off. Is this ok behavior ?

My daughter does the same thing, but it is because I never wear shoes in the house, and she want to be like me...and she has never gotten sick.

Most kids do that... you want him to run around your house in shoes??? It's actually very common for most families to take off their socks and shoes at the door. I know they do this in Japan, but here in America I've had a few friends who had mothers who had rules about taking off the shoes at least. Your three year old will not catch a cold, and you shouldn't be telling him he's going to catch a cold for not wearing shoes or socks inside the house. He's 35 months old!!!!!!!! He's perfectly normal.

Congrats on being a first-time mom! (how did I know?)

It would be abnormal if your son DIDN'T constantly take off his shoes/socks. In fact, pediatricians feel that the LESS time a child's feet are in shoes (at least while inside the house), the better. Besides, socks alone are a slipping hazard.

Yes, they do not like to be restricted with even clothing sometimes. They want to feel comfortable, and sometimes that means shoe's off! I have been to friends houses and I find the same thing, kids not wanting to get dressed. My son was the same way, and after he paraded around my parents in his birthday suit, they didn't speak to me for a few weeks. Kids do what feels most comfortable to them, and sometimes it's not the same behavior as us adults have....

He isn't going to catch a cold from taking off his shoes and socks.

Yes...he's normal. He's trying to get comfortable.

It's fine. Better then fine because if he gets keep up this practice. You don't have to worry about him tracking muddy shoe through the house as he gets older. Just think of all the cleanup work your saving your self.

Children do not like to wear shoes. If you are worried about his feet being cold buy some blanket sleepers they are plastic soles to keep him from slipping and falling. And they will keep him warm because my kids do not like to keeps the covers on while sleeping.

You dont catch a cold unless you get a virus or bacteria.

Does he suck on his toes? (I'm not being silly) Does he play with his feet with his hands? If he does, does he put his hands in his mouth afterwards? If so, that could get germs in his mouth that could make him sick.

Having cold feet will not, tho.

I got my boy "teenage mutant ninja turtle" slippers, he never took em off! Try elmo or other cartoon character he likes.
