I was studying Korean for the Army at DLI. Korean is a very logical language. If you look at it like a puzzle more than speaking it makes it easier. Start off with the alphabet and the character structure. There are very concrete rules about where the individual symbols can go. Then move onto the pronunciation of each symbol and the characters once the symbols are combined. That should give you a good start. Stay away from books that will give you phonetic "Americanizations" of Korean words because it will only confuse you. Then you can move onto sentence structure and the hardest part (for me anyway) verb conjugation. Three main focuses: reading, speaking, and listening. One last tip... Have fun with it! Learn dirty words and make up nonsense sentences. If it is too much like work it will get frustrating.

It took me approximately every week to be equipped to learn and write in hangul. My process was once to jot down down the entire characters and their english translation on a small paper, stick it in my pockets, then attempt to learn each korean signal I got here throughout(notice: you kinda must reside in korea to do that). If I did not consider the man or woman I took out the paper and said it from there. To gain knowledge of to form took approximately three weeks, seeing that I shouldn't have the korean letters on my keyboard, so for the primary few days it was once whole guesswork. Then after that I began studying the fewer normal characters. Now I can form lovely good.
