Some people think it is disrespectful because the tradition is red, but peace activists are selling white ones.

I think it's disrespectful to the veterans because it implies that the red poppy is NOT a symbol of peace. The white poppy people are implying that the elderly veterans selling red poppies are a bunch of ignorant warmongers, when nothing could be farther from the truth. As well; the revenue from red poppies goes to help veterans in failing health, whereas we are only told that the revenue from white poppies goes to some vauge "peace" organization. That being said; I feel the "peace activists" have the right to their opinion (that's what the veterans fought for!), just not the right to appropriate the Legion's symbol. As it turns out, the law may be on side of the Legion as the poppy is a trademark.

It's Red because it's a Canadian Tradition. Because of the WW1 poem, please excuse me at the moment, I cannot remember the specific poem. This must be happening in Canada. As an American Veteran, I always bought 1,2.3, every year when I lived up there, with my beautiful EX.

I would not consider it disrespectful, however I would never give
any money to that cause. Would give to Your Canadian Veterans instead.

They are protesting your participation in Afghanistan.

I suggest you ask if they are prepared to travel there and make peace... Who will fight the bad guys otherwise....

liberalism and socialism and communism is world wide.....they are on the same page book....

Allow your white poppie people to give out their poppie...and tell them Thankyou....I will reserve my contribution to our Canadian Veterans...who have earned the right to protest anything.

I don't think so, unless they were sold as part of an anti-war demonstration. That may hit too close to home for Vietnam veterans.

And you need to make it clear that you are for the troops.

By "anti-war demonstration", I mean where the focus is against the war. There is a difference between a demonstration for peace and a demonstration against the war.

No I would not wear one. Anti-war protesters always bugged me. During vietnam they threw dog poop on the soldiers coming home and yelled Baby Killer at them. Does that sound like the love generation. Read on flanders field. If it wasn't for these war veterans the nazis could just come along and shoot these anti-war protesters.

No, for it is a rememberance for the sacrifices they did.

"In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row...."
