Yes, I had an experience once when I was very depressed and at my lowest. I was so low that I did not know what else to do, so in my desperation when there was nobody else to turn to, I tried to picture in my mind the face of Jesus. (At the time I had still not made my mind up about religion.) All of a sudden there was a surge of peace and tranquillity and a feeling of love that I had never ever experienced in my life. It was as if I was in his loving arms and he was saying "it's going to be all-right if you just give this to me." That is the best way that I can describe it because the strength of it was not of this earth. It had to have been Jesus. There is a Bible passage where Jesus says "If you search for me, you will find me." It was then that I understood what that passage meant.

I experienced everything, everywhere, everywhen, simultaneously at the age of 17 for about five hours. It was life-changing, even forty years later.
I went to a psychologist and had a cat-scan. No brain damage, and the psychologist seemed to think that if it was a psychotic break, which he doubted, it seemed to have only beneficial effects. He offered to talk if I ever felt the need, but felt there was no purpose in continuing our discussions at that time.
I don't drink, smoke, or take drugs, and except for getting drunk once when I was 16, and smoking for a few weeks for a part in a play, I never have. Oh, I did once get stoned at a Who concert just by standing in the crowd. Don't like the Who, just happen to know Pete.
I promptly did a search of all world religions as well as a number of other areas of study.
I've never started a group, never written a book, and never joined a religion.
I share what I know and experience now with my wife and daughter to make their lives joyous and productive. They're flourishing. I use the knowledge I gained to help my students without influencing their choice of religion or politics, but to teach ethics where they don't include morals (honesty, integrity, responsibility, etc.)
There is so much I wish I could share with people, but people aren't really interested unless you can levitate a spoon, or fit the description of a saint as outlined by the last book they bought from someone who claims they met a "saint" or "master" who happens to be dead and only the author can talk to them.
Hard to live up to those images.
Even harder when the experience teaches you that you can NEVER be better than anyone. Oh, perhaps better at some things and worse at others, but feeling superior is VERY hard after experiencing such a thing.
Good luck with your search. May you find YOUR path to God/enlightenment/etc. We may meet on the paths one day as I wander them, no longer seeking what I already have.

Yes Catholics have many mystical experiences much like the Apostle John. He is Representative of the Catholic Faith. Richer deeper, more symbolic. He (we) stand at the foot of the cross with Mary our Mother while the other disciples look on from a distance.

Yes. I've had healings that were completely supernatural and done by God. There's no other possible explanation for them. These things were not accomplished by intense human effort of some kind. I've tried that. These were totally different and done by God Himself. Email me (by clicking on my name under the grey smiley box over there) for details, if you want them. I know others who've also had various types of encounters with God and experiences that must be ascribed to Him. These happenings aren't how I know He's real, however; I knew that long before He did these things for me and others whom I know.

I can trigger that with psilocybin and it will be considered "a life changing religious experience" and "the most meaningful." On follow up most will find "the experience continues to be personally and spiritually meaningful to them."
The human mind itself creates all the sensations and feelings you have. Trigger the right part of the brain and the person will react accordingly.

Yes. I will just mention two of them; I went through a 'born again' experience. I went through a faith healing that ended a medical condition that the docs said I would have for the rest of my life.

I have had many experiences that are attributed to the highest being, none of which I would consider religious.

For me my strongest proof of God are the miracles of the natural world and scientific knowledge around us that we experience every day. Anything more paranormal would be a lot easier to attribute to some odd delusion rather than anything else.

Happens in Ritual. The Goddess or the God is called, and if you are open to the experience they will make their presence known, and felt.

Not within the context of your definition, no higher beings involved.
Doesn't mean there couldn't be, just that there haven't been.
Peace to all,
;-)
