Actually there ARE athiests in prison, at least according to a few contacts of mine who are ex-cons that have been released in the last few years....there are not many....but they are there....
a better question would be to ask why the percentage of Christians that are incarcerated is significaantly higher than the national statics for religious worship in the total population? Or Why there are more Christians than all other religions combined incarcerated? Or, why are the NO christians of Middle Eastern descent incarcerated?

That there's alot less Atheists than they would like people to believe?
Or could it more than likely be a cultural factor, such as, most crime is a matter of cultural problems, part of which is poverty, and lack of education, meanwhile, since Atheist is usually a position taken by educated, college bound people, they aren't the typical law breakers, or at least mommy and daddy can afford a good lawyer.
Then again, it might just be, once you get in prison, and have to take your first shower, you start praying that you aren't gonna become somebody's sex toy.

Straight out, what gave you the idea there are no atheists in prison? Kind of off the top, don't you think? & the next thing you said was very mean spirited. "You religious types." Hmmm. I have NO religion, but I find this most insulting to others. You'll certainly get a torrent of answers to this question. Perhaps that's what you wanted. Very sad!

That's the same thing as saying why aren't there atheist in foxholes. Maybe when they get in a situation where they could die at any moment they want more than anything to believe in something. The thought of possibly dying does something to all of us.

When did you actually find the time to interview each single person in prison about their religious believes & views?
One thing I know for sure - there were no atheist amongst the fighter pilots in WW2. When faced with the enemy fire the only hope those boys had was GOD & their faith. Get real!
Your statement is a very embarasing one!

How many inmates converted from atheism to Christianity only after being incarcerated? What does that say about the unGodly? I'll tell you....It's because when you reach the end of the road, you realize the truth about what is real and right about the world and yourself. You understand and know and reach out to the only One that can help you. The only One in the world that loves you and knows you. And that is the Lord God Himself. Why, because this fact of God is ingrained in our soul. Believe that! Many people don't come to the end of their rope as quick as someone who is in prison, alone, and serving life, with nothing but the walls and wackos surrounding them.

Why? Because all the athiests in prison found the truth when they hit rock bottom, so even though their still in jail, they've changed their lives and are no longer athiest. You need God in a place like that.

I doubt you statistics but even if exagerated they might show God humbled some of them leading them in grace and mercy... after all allot of em have time on their hands and might invest it wisely in Bible Study and things to improve their quality of life, eh? why not

Personally, I wonder where you got the data to support such a statement.
To me it is obvious that a religious belief, or not, will not cause, in most cases, a person to commit a crime. We are not talking about terrorism in the name of religion, are we? That is a whole other story.
I am agnostic.
