I don't think she's racist, but it's just extremely disrespectful. And it's people like you, who speaks spanish all the time, that contribute to the immigration problem. The native in the country always have a problem with foreigners who refuse to convert their lifestlyes to the new countries, so the natives feel that their country is being taken over by other people. I'm not saying that honoring your own country is wrong, I myself is not American. I just think that before you say someone is racise (which is a very very strong word) consider other factors too. She's a teacher, and you are not in spanish class, of course she would want you to speak in english, and participate in the class. And instead, you speak in spanish which means you are not interested in her subject, b/c you'd rather chat with your friends. I would simply stop talking in spanish, and speak english like you should in her class room. and pay her respect like one should to a teacher.

I don't think she is racist. She might just want an order in the classroom and prefers that everyone speak a language that everyone can understand. She also might just feel weird having you three speak a language she cannot understand at all and think you guys are talking bad things. Maybe you should just respect what she says for a while. After that go up to her and ask her. Who knows, if you are nice and not disrespectful she mighty allow it, then again if you are a misbehaved child than she won't care at all and just keep on suspending you :)

No... your teacher is not racist. A person who's would discriminate your culture. In fact, if she discriminates about the hispanic community, she could get fired... I doubt she dare do that. Frankly, it has nothing to do with the illegal immigrant issue in the US. That's about jobs...
The same issue your having now happened to the deaf community. In New York, the hard of hearing were forced to speak English and forbidden to sign. Now, if your in an English class... its obvious why your expected to speak English... If that's not even an issue then you need to take stronger measures... You need to address your right to freedom of speech. When you do... avoid using insults and other vulgar words. Your only talking to your friends in Spanish right? That's k. In fact, I sign with my deaf friends in high school and there was no problem. If your teacher still doesnt buy it... go to the priciple. If not.. go to the Unified School District with your friends, family and community and file a complaint about being suspended for your right to freedom of speech. You have every right to speak your own language... but it is expected to speak English too... Good luck.

Hm...maybe...
Where you bothering your teacher because you were talking at an inappropriate time or was it you were talking spanish when it was an appropriate time to speak in class?
Do you here anybody else speak in another foreign language? Maybe your teacher is umcomftorable with you speaking a foreign language that she doesn't know and might suspect you are insulting her or that you are cheating in some way.
ASK HER WHY SHE DOESN'T LET YOU TO SPEAK IN SPANISH!
If see doesn't give a good valid reason report her to your principal or somebody.

It depends. If the class is an English class, then the teacher is right but if it isn't a English class, she has no right to tell you not to speak Spanish. If the problem is that you are talking during lecture, that is another problem but if her problem is the language being spoken, she is wrong. It is your right to be allowed to speak your language as much as it is the right of other students who speak slang or an urban dialect of English. If you can't speak Spanish, other students can't use their dialects. Take this issue up with the principal, if he/she agrees with the teacher go higher up. Make sure they know that you are ready to sue for your Constitutional right.

Pls talk to her the way u just did to us.

I have worked for many large companies. I have taken several diversity training classes as a result. In every single one of those courses it was taught that as a society we have to respect and allow for diversity in the culture around us. This includes language. At every one of those companies, it was a strict policy that any deviation from that would be considered discrimination and result in termination of employment. I want you to be honest with yourself first, and ask yourself some questions. Are you using any unacceptable language when you speak in spanish? Are you being offensive to any person in class? Are you using the language barrier in any way to discriminate or hide information when you speak in spanish? If you can honestly say no to all of those questions, I would get proof of her refusal to allow you to speak spanish, and approach your principal or school board. Give them examples of companies with these strict policies. One, for example is Accenture. Another is Maximus. The last thing I would leave you with is this.. pick your battles. Make sure this issue is truly one you are willing to fight for, because if you are challenged by school administrators, you are going to have to be armed with credible information and resources. You can't just say you think its not fair.

agree..it can be quite rude to speak in a language that most people cant understand..
I also understand that you have a right to speak in spanish..
suggestion, keep the spanish at home and out of school..
when your classmates understand what you're saying, they are more likely to want to have u as a friend.
I personally experienced situations where speaking in a language not understood by the rest created a barrier in potential relationship/friendship.

well no offense but its kinda disrespectful especially when nobody else can understand what u r saying, and peepz get paranoid and think u are talkn about them. Not that they dont want u 2 speak spanish but if nobody else speaks it in the class and if your teach doesnt know it and understand it then out of respect 2 everybody who doesnt know spanish i think thats fair. and u might be cheating in spanish lol this is america true land of the free but it is the english language that is first. but as soon as u leave that class girly speak all u want. I dont think she means anything by it just makes alot of peepz feel uncomfortable thats all.
