It can be both
I've been to a friend's house once where she used chili as the dip for chips instead of using salsa. In that case, it was a snack
I consider chili a dinner if I sit down at the table and have a bowl of chili. Like you would with a bowl of stew or soup.
Agree that you are both right, and then kiss and make up.......LOL

Chili can be a dinner and a snack. Just depends on how much is available and if there is anything else to eat with it :). You both are right.

Both! Chili w/crackers or cornbread, or Frito pie and a salad for dinner. Chili w/velveeta cheese melted in it w/a little bit of picante sauce makes a great chip dip for snacking. So quit arguing about it & eat some!!!

I have had it for dinner with a salad and I have had it in the middle of the day as a snack so I guess both of you are correct.

I have never heard it called a snack but it sure could be one. It can be an appetizer or the main course for dinner.

Honestly it depends on how much of it you eat. If you're eating a little cup of it liek 3-4 oz, then I'd consider that a snack. If you had a big bowl like 8-12 oz, then I'd consider it a meal.

If it's in that little half-cup plastic container from the soup aisle, it's a snack.
If it's home made and served with all the fixins (sour cream, shredded cheese, cornbread or corn chips, etc.) then it's dinner.

Depends when you eat it - could be breakfast, lunch or dinner. But never ever a snack. LOL!
