I am asking this because of the cigarette commercial where they supposedly put sodium hydroxide on these guys' back to spell out CIGARETTE, but I am a chemistry major, and if they really put sodium hydroxide on the guys back, it would have burnt the hell out of them, because sodium hydroxide is a strong base, which is sometimes worse than an acid. Anyway, if Nair does contain sodium hydroxide, its really not smart to be putting it on your skin????????

Perhaps you should read the ingredients on the label.

Yes, but I think it's a mild amount, plus it is not like putting pure sodium hydroxide on your skin, as it contains other ingredients.

Yes. It really does burn if you leave it on too long but it is mixed with moisturizers to dull the effects. What Nair does is literally burn out the roots of the hair.

i think it does... my friend used it and left it on for too long by mistake and it burnt her skin, not badly but it was red and she said it hurt like hell.
