I hate to tell you this, but the dog is still in heat even though the bleeding stopped.
. Females go into heat about every 6 months. and the heat lasts for 21days.
The heat cycle of the female dog has three parts and lasts about 3 weeks.
The first part lasts anywhere from 3-14 days during which a bloody discharge and swelling of the vaginal area are usually seen.
Next the dog will become receptive to being bred and actively may seek out a male dog. This is the time when she can become pregnant. The discharge may change color at this time and become lighter
. Finally, the discharge will become clearer, the vaginal swelling will diminish and the dog will no longer allow herself to be bred.
While your dog is in heat you must watch her carefully to avoid unwanted breeding and subsequent puppies. If you are not planning on breeding your dog, please have her spayed to help prevent unwanted puppies. I will also lower her risk to several types of cancer.

The swelling is normal for the second stage of her heat cycle and the bleeding only lasts for the first stage. She should be safe to be spayed in a couple of weeks. The vet would tell you all about her after care once she's been spayed, but usually just rest is all that's needed. Most vets now use dissolvable stitches, so even going back for suture removal isn't necessary.
As far as tearing up her bed, it could be a variety of things, but could also be attributed to her heat cycle. It could be separation anxiety. It could mean that she was just bored.
I'm no expert, but I have dogs and show dogs, so I have some experience. Good Luck!!!

She is 5 days in, just keep watching on the calendar. There is a time in the middle where discharge lessens, lightens and the vulva is swollen. She will be like that for a week then you will notice the discharge starting again. The swelling goes down in month or so after the heat is done.
You must keep her under careful watch to keep all males away right now.
The bed probably got ripped up because of the heat. Wait a month and buy a new one. The whole cycle lasts 3-4 weeks, so you can get her spayed after that.
For now, just try to give her a little extra love and play with her to keep her occupied. Some girls can get kind of naughty while in heat. Feed her the normal daily amount of food.

Good for you for spaying her after this cycle, but a good general rule is to spay females BEFORE their first heat. Some minimal swelling is fine, but anything major or persistent requires a vet check. As for the bed tearing, yes, some odd behaviors are to be expected, all the more reason to alter all pups as early as possible. Her behavior is PMS, just like with human females. Give her some extra space and TLC, and she will be fine. I would make her spay appointment for two weeks after her last day of bleeding.

It is normal for a dog to swell when she is on heat and afew days after, you will know when she has finished when the swelling has gone down. When she gets home after being spayed she will just have to rest, no real special things you have to do, just make sure she is comfortable. She may have ripped up her new bed because she was bored or because it is new or just because she is on heat and moody

a dogs heat cycle lasts around 21 day. 7 days going in, 7 days in standing heat( bleeding, receptive to males and swollen vulva) and 7 days going out. she should be considered fertile and at risk to become pregnant all 21 days. Tearing up the new bed could be anything from boredom to nesting and may not have anything to do with her heat cycle. After her spay surgery she should be kept inactive and calm for 7-14 days so she can heal properly. Your vet will give you detailed instructions on her aftercare when they discharge her from the hospital.

Crate immediately, no free run of the house, no free eating, no free fun, no free anything for the next few weeks, maybe longer. On leash when out of the crate, always, YOU lead the way whatever you are going, you decide everything for that dog, always. When, not if, he attempts to bite you again, you must react instantly and correct the behavior without ANY emotion behind it...that is important!!! String him up from his choker until you are looking at him in the eye, maintain eye contact and let him think about it. All 4 feet of the ground, I know, this will be where people in here will lose it, but, tough shyt, no dog is ever allowed to bite his owner, period! This is an almost level 10 correction and it is a MUST when it happens again. You must be the source of everything in that dog's life, everything and he has to look at you as such for the rest of his life. Right now you are not worth very much in his eyes and you need to fix that. Tough, dominant dogs do not understand the "time out" crap that people talk about in here, they do understand coming to within an inch of their lives though and they undergo a magical transformation when that happens. Hope I helped!

One week going in=strange behaviors, licking.
One week in=bleeding, excessive licking and boys hanging around, vaginal swelling, impregnable possibilities.
One week going out=less blood, boys still hanging around, swelling subsides
Spay anywhere from $40-$200
Not having an unwanted litter...
Priceless!
