Are southern men more polite/gentlemanly than northern men? I've noticed that in the south, men hold doors for women and always pay for dinner, etc. when dating. I've dated northern guys, and they always go Dutch and never do those nice things like hold the door, tell my mother ma'am, etc. Am I the only one who's noticed this?

I live in South Carolina... I do all that stuff... but I have traveled the country... I will tell you that there are far more women beaters here in the South (or my area of SC) then there are in the north... though the people in general are FAR more pleasant down here then they are up there :D

Although not all mine are alike, true, most men from the South are brought up to respect women more than Northerners, I suppose. I am from Texas myself, and I've always been brought up to be the finest gentlemen I can be. However, I do know some people that grew up here that are as rude as rude can be.

So, the answer is: Percentage-wise, there's a good chance that a higher percentage of Southerners are more polite, but it's not a die-hard fact or truth.

I can not speak from experience about northern men because I do not know any. But, here in the south men are gentlemen. They hold doors open, they say "please" "thank you" "ma'am" and "sir". I can't say that ALL southern men are like that, but the majority of the ones I've been around are. I can't imagine any man I've known taking a date out & expecting her to pay her own way. That is not a date.

No. I used to live up north and when i moved here the men were definitely more polite. there are more guys who are gentlemen but i think that its decreasing from what i've seen. In the north, the guys might hold the door but its rare for one to open the door for you unlike in the south. As for paying for dinner, I've met some really cheap guys in the south so i don't agree with that. But up north guys did pay for me.

I agree, all men are different. I'm from the South, but I've just married a man from Michigan. It depends on what type of person the guy is. I've met men from both areas that were jerks and others who were great. Depends on personality.

No they are not. They are good to their mamma's, and are respectful to thier elders, and authority figures. For some reason when it comes to the wife.....eggg.. They change. It is a good old boy, women are subservient type of mentality. I am not kidding about the mamma bit either. And let me tell ya Southern women, ooo weee. That is a whole other ball game there too. They are not all sunshine and peaches. You Ladies know I am not lying. :)
