The entire process takes about 3-4 hours. The crematory retort burns at approximately 1800 degrees. The body is not reduced to simply ashes as everyone thinks, there are some larger bone fragments leftover that are then pulverized so that it is an even consistency. Bodies are cremated one at a time and the retort is cleaned after every cremation.

wow there is so much more to cremation then just burning the body.
1) they pull out any body jewelry
2) they put the body in an incinerater and let it burn
3) then there is a pulverizer b/c bones don't burn and it crushes the bones till they're dust.
4) they pull the ashes out and pick through to make sure that there aren't any kinda capped teeth b/c metal doesn't crush nor burn.
*the only reason i know this is b/c when my dad was cremated the funeral home director gave us a paper to know exactly was the process was.

you shove them in an incinerator and then scoop out their ashes afterward.
