Use oyster sauce. (Lea & Perrins tasty too)
Add fish sauce for steaming fish.

Some oyster sauces are mixed with mushroom, abalone, etc.

Little bit of monosodioum Glutamate (Vetsin) will make it tasty. That's the easiest way to add flavor.

I work on kitchen equipment for many Chinese joints. I find the lonesome Cockroach wondering into the batter mix adds a nice but savory flavor.

weird but anchovy paste and worcestershire sauce make the dishes tastier.. i know they're not chinese ingredients but sometimes when im cooking on my wak i use these in certain recipes to bring out the flavor
