Supplements are precisely this - they add health benefits to your diet, but do not replace diet. Why have you purchased these supplements I wonder? And yes, many supplements are recommended for the "more mature" body. It is assumed that your body is healthy, free of the toxins that plague adults, and that your parents are feeding you properly! Again, I question the motivaton for your choice to purchase flax seed .

As recommended in another answer to your question, www.doctorsaredangerous.com recommends that eating properly is KEY to health. If you do decide to add flaxseed to your diet, I suggest:
1. eat it! grocery stores sell milled flaxseed which can be added to cereal etc.
2. liquid is best, (Udo's 3-6-9 Oil Blend which condtains flax seed oil in ratio with other "beneficial" oils, is the most reputable one I know of), then gel caps if you cannot locate a liquid.

If you are concerned with "side-effects" I suggest you do your "homework" before you put anything in your mouth which you are unsure of. For starters, look here:

http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/columnnn/nn030414.html
"Flaxseed is an ancient, blue-flowering crop cultivated extensively in Canada. The flax plant produces a fiber from which linen is woven and an edible seed from which oil can be extracted. Over the past several years, it has been discovered that the edible form of the oil and the seed contain a wealth of healthful substances, including fiber, heart healthy omega-3 fatty acids and plant chemicals called lignans, which may help reduce the risk for certain types of cancer."

Another resource with many articles and a good search option: http://www.hsibaltimore.com

And for the scientific "stuff", this is really informative::

Flaxseed oil has helped me a great deal with my asthma....I don't have to take all of these drugs either........there are several benefits to taking flexseed oil.....helps me to breathe alot better.....i take it in liquid form and not pill form.
Go to a health food store.....I'm sure they have literature on the many benefits of the product. I don't know why it states not to take them if you are under 18....must be the dosage of the pills.
Good luck.
