Catholic sisters call a new student a postulant. she does not wear a veil, and does not wear the full habit. Often it is a different color than a sister's habit.. She then takes some vows, wears the veil, and is called a novice, her habit changes, too, according to the customs of the order. When she has taken final vows, she is a sister, and wears the full habit.

You are on probation before you are accepted into the fold.
Or are you talking dis-fellowship if that's the case you are not considered apart of the church unless you change your ways and prove you have done so.
