There are several good sources for scholarships and grants available to college students. I recommend proofreading every application essay before sending it. I also recommend getting familiar with the organization before applying. All of these sources are free to apply.

First, apply in January or early February at FAFSA.ed.gov because it will help you tap into need based financial aid from both the federal government and the college itself.

Second, 35 states have a website where a student can apply for both college admission and state college grants which can be located on Yahoo.com and Google.com. If your state is not one, you can search your state government's website for college grants, and it will show.

Third, your high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships available to its high school students.

Fourth, the college financial aid office has a list of private scholarships from companies and organizations. Also, some college departments have a list of scholarships for particular college majors.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most have customized search based on the information you put in there.

Good luck!
