Did you ask for an ultrasound? Ultrasound is very good at seeing intramammary lymph nodes. Remember that a radiologist has be very sure that your "lump" is benign to recommend a 6 month follow up. Of course, nothing is a hundred percent, but a recommendation of a 6 month follow up is as close as you can get! With all of the biopsy techniques available today, the radiologist would suggest that if he/she was uncomfortable with your mass. A FN biopsy is not the test I would choose. They are not very accurate, especially if this is a lump that is only seen on a mammogram, and cannot be felt. Instead, if you decide to get a biopsy, look into stereotactic breast biopsy. It is a simple, image guided biopsy which will yield surgical grade tissue samples. Simply put, I would ask for an ultrasound, and if that also showed a lymph node, I would wait the six months. If the ultrasound was inconclusive, I would ask for a stereo biopsy......

My mother is going thru the same process. Her doctor found a small mass on the mammogram and made her come back in for an ultrasound. The doctor told her to come back in 6 months for a re-check. He also said she could go to a surgeon if she wanted to but he didnt feel it was necessary at this time. Ever since that appointment she has been worrying about it. 6 months is a long time to wait around for an answer. I'm trying to keep her mind at ease, but at the same time..doctors are human too. If you will get peace of mind from a biopsy I say do it. Good luck.

I'd get a second opinion from a doctor or ask for a fine needle biopsy because you don't want to wait the six months.

The surgeon will probably do the needle biopsy. But, I'd agree that you need one. [but I'm not a doctor] Keep pressing until you get the answers you need. Best wishes.

I am only 20 so I dont have much experience with this subject. But last year I had a large bump in my breast and the doctors had me very worried, it ended up being a swollen lymph node. But you should keep intouch with doctors just to make sure this isnt anything serious.

You should seek out all your options, do not let any doctor tell you to wait 6 months. This is your life and take control. Go to a doctor that will help you right away. I find that they all take too little time with you and let you wait too long for results. Don't let this happen with you. Do what has to be done with your health, don't wait, be assertive. God Bless.

if your gp sends you to a surgeon you do what the surgeon says if your gp agrees, fine needle biopsy is not a bad idea anyway.

Talk to the surgeon. Decide if the mass is accsessable and the procedure should have an adequate cosmetic outcome. Talk odds of cancer and figure out where to go from there.

The surgeon will do the needle test and determine if he/she feels it necessary to remove it..Sometimes they will remove it especially if it makes you feel better. Always ask..and never take it for granted..I didn't..my gp said no cancer and my surgeon did surgery.guess what I had......C A N C E R
