As a generality, yes.
Firstly there would be a lot less drivers on the road which would help to make the roads safer.
Secondly, in general terms men are better drivers than women. I know, I know, some women are good, some men are bad etc., etc., but the qualities and skills required for better driving are naturally more prominent in men.
It still would not solve the problem though, since the general standard of driving among men is appallingly low.

wow this set the cat among the pigeons!
If there were less women drivers on the road there would be less drivers so the accident rate would probably decrease slighly.
I know this will get me some thumbs down but heres the plain truth.
It is scientifically proven that women are inferior drivers because they are less spatially aware. It stems from the days when the human male was the hunter and has substantially superior judgement of speed and distance.
However , womens nature being the less aggressive of the 2 sexes means that they drive slower and are less inclined to take risks.
Often when im overtaking , the vehicle im passing speeds up to stop me ...invariably male..also when im overtaking, they vehicle approaching will move up close as poss to the centre line just in case i dare enter his zone(this only happens on british roads), again always a male driver
All this considered,(and i know they can dither a little at junctions), I would feel safer if the roads were populated with women,

no, but i do agree that there are as many female as male drivers out there that should not be allowed on the road, most are fine but are are exceptions.
i am female and have been a delivery driver for over 12 years, i also have a class 2 heavy goods licence ( which i passed 1st time ) and the few accidents that i have had have all been caused by men, pulling out on me, not stopping and running into the back of me or driving erratically and side swiping me.
so no sorry, i can not agree with you, there are good and bad in both sexes.

well, i can't say it would be safer, but i think they're would be a lot less mobile phones being sold!
and as for the accidents it isn't actually that more men have more accidents than woman, its usually the men have more expensive claims, also, woman women and all that find it easier to get away with things due to the non existant sexism laws we have, i've known girls who drive a lot worse than the boyracers i know, however its not that they drive faster (most girls i know defend they're mistakes by pointing out its safe because they are within the speed limits regardless of the fact they are texting whilst checking makeup! just the fact they have an old dawoo that isn't worth anything means they have cheaper claims!)
theres a difference between driving slow and driving safe!
p.s. i have eto be nice to my g/f who drives dangerously for replying to this on her yahoo thingy :P

It's not a gender thing I don't think. The roads would be a lot safer if people didn't talk on their mobile phones when they drove (one of my biggest pet hates!) Although women can make silly mistakes on the roads, men are just plain idiots sometimes. Have you noticed aswell that BMW drivers are some of the worst in the entire world, regardless of gender? Get ready for a whole heap of thumbs down from all the BMW owners!!! Ha ha!

As men are still responsibly for the majority of accidents i would have to disagree. I think irresponsible, careless and reckless drivers should be banned, then the roads would be a lot safer!

I still see lots of women using their cell phones, doing their hair and even applying make up as they drive along. I also see lots of kids not strapped in. I see boy racers, and I see old people who can hardly see over the wheel. I see the maniac lorry drivers on the motorway, and I see idiot cyclists without lights. I see lots of cars with only one headlight, and I see the white van drivers tearing around the towns to beat delivery times. I see loads of women in great big polluting 4x4s who cannot park and I see mad motorcyclists. Shall I go on? There are very few good drivers on the roads these days, male or female.

You must be joking.....men are the ones with all of the road rage and it's usually because of another male driver on the road........really that is so sexist. Most accidents......for instance alcohol related ones are from teenagers and kids in the 18 to 25 year old range and many are men/boys.
And, older people over 70 cause alot of accidents. Not women.

The roads would be safer to some extent because the traffic would be decreased by about 75%, so yes, less traffic would effect less opportunity for accidents.
Ms Cryllie of course assumes that you did not intend to denigrate half the world's population, especially the half which includes the woman who gave birth to you.
Did you have a male spelling teacher, by the way?
raising an eyebrow at you,

I think that this question is just gonna get the woman angry and make them say things they wouldn't regularily say about men. Some of the answers i have read are pretty stupid. Like some of the men have said yes (which is agreeing with a false stereotype) and some of the women are saying bad things about the men drivers out there (which are also not true)
I think that the person who asked this question was just trying to stir up a controversy... and if so he did a great job because he got 36 answers!
