Ebay Kits: (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/28364/ebay_seller_kits_a_waste_of_your_money.html)
"This is really a scam by other people who are not making a success of selling on eBay. They are assuming that most people are lazy and do not feel like reading through all of the information on eBay. So what they have do is put together a small summary of what to do. Of course nowadays the world is full of lazy people, or people who just do not have the time to read all of the fine print. So if you want to just start making money without having to read through some long drawn out explanation, then you may want to purchase the eBay sellers kit. But if you really want to save your money just read the information for yourself. Remember you are just helping someone else get rich because you do not want to take a little extra time to read. That just sound kind of ridiculous."

Selling to a salesman on a regular basis may be a hard thing to do. They have the same resources as you, and they are looking for the cheapest price too. So selling to customers may be easier than trying to become the middleman to the middleman.

Probably one in 100 people make money on ebay as a result of buying a kit.

There is a channel called distribution that buys in volume from manufacturers at a lower price and sells to other resellers at a higher price on a regular basis. Their margin is in the 8% to 12% range. The distribution channel market is in the trillions of dollars. The resellers usually make 29% on hard goods.

It is possible to buy from major wholesalers and resell on ebay. Everytime you add a channel, the margin drops.

The E-bay infomercials just give you ideas at a price. If you have items to sell, you can do that yourself on E-bay....everyone still needs a good marketing plan. They will however, answer a lot of basic question that you might have to start. If you have the money to pay their fee for their kit.

As to second part of your question, usually you aren't selling to salesman; they are selling to you. It's possible to buy wholesale or at a discounted price from a manufacturer and resale at a higher price. Almost every retail store does this. Mom and Pop shops buy from the distributor or middle man due to the smaller volume that they have. It's capitalism at its most basic...buy low; sell higher for a profit. You just have to find a market.

The kits are the sale of another ebay (type) merchant! They provide some advice but it is usually pretty generic.

You can buy and resell on ebay for a small profit but keep in mind ebayers are expecting to pay very little for things.

I used to buy from the ABC catalogs but found that I had to guess at what would sell and usually didnt break even after shipping costs to me.

i dont know about a
b. to sell right, you have to buy right. you dont; make money when you sell, you make money when you buy. when you sell all you do is guarantee a tax liability.
if you can buy from the mfg, why don;t the salesmen?
do you buy more?
what you are talking about is being a wholesaler.
every companyu has a sales policy that usually includes minimum quantities and or required frequency. if you fit their parameters they'll sell to you.
the trick is establishing a market. you buy a hundred items and the area you service only uses 20 a year, you have a 5 year inventory can you expand your territory or increase need? if not you are out of business because you couldn't buy right.

2. Yes, most places require you to have a business license though....
