What is the average cost of getting braces (I know this will vary, but I'm looking for a general estimate), for the retainer required afterward, and for professional whitening.

Unfortunetely it's not lower for me...I'm a triplet, and it's $5000CAD EACH child, PLUS Retainer (x3) PLUS whitening (x3). That's why I'm curious if I'm getting gouged.

First you will have an evaluation by an orthodontist, his work will include the braces and the retainers. I would look at anywhere from $1500 to $3500. He will expect you to have your teeth cleaned and repair work done first. You will then be expected to have cleanings at least every 6 months and sometime 3 during your treatment. If you need to have any teeth extracted an oral surgeon will charge for that. Having the teeth bleached could range from $200 to over $1000. I would think you will need in the area of $6000. That is what the total of my work was and I had them put on 6 years ago. I must add that I am very pleased with the results. After having 5 of my nine children done I decided it was my turn. All associated people should now be able to go on nice vacations thanks to my payments over the years!

Stay away from the professional teeth whitening procedures and from the whitening at home kits. They are using extremely toxic chemicals that can cause IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO TOOTH ENAMEL and premature tooth decay.

Check out this site: http://www.naturalwhiteteeth.net - It's about how you can whiten your teeth 100% naturally. Same results but 100% safe and 1000 times cheaper.
