In the past there were other gods that were worshiped. The creator has one name that he tells us to remember him by isn't the name YAHWEH?

actually we do not know how the name you are referring to in the Bible was pronounced.
Hebrew unlike English dose not have any vowels. As a result their can be multiple ways of pronouncing the same word. The fact is the word that has been translated as Yahweh we do not know if that is the proper pronunciation.
