Go to a breeder. I got my puppy from a breeder and have never been happier. They will have healthy puppies that will usually have all their shots taken care of. You will also have reference if you have any questions, and they will also come from a loving home instead from a shelter, and wont have attention issues in the future. So do your research and think of the perfect breed for you. Then go on the internet and try finding a breeder close to your home. Go see the puppies first, make sure their ears are light pink, they walk straight, and they're happy - and of course that YOU like them. Depending on breeds prices will vary. Good luck, I hope you will have as much success as I did!

Always a trip to the local shelter or pound is a good idea. Puppies normally go fast but it is very possible to find them if you are willing to try and save a dogs life. A great website to use for shelters and pounds all around the country is www.petfinder.com . They have a great search to use to pin point a shelter near you. They will also be able to answer your questions and help you find a dog that will fit in great with you family and lifestyle. I know it is alot easier to buy a dog from a pet store but alot of them come from puppy mills and that is not a good thing. If you do decide that you want to go to a pet store try Petsmart or places like that because they have animal adoptions. Don't keep pounds out of your mind because I adopted most of my dogs from pounds and they have been great. And remember a dog is considered a puppy until it is a year or more old and if you can luck out like I did I got a purebred beagle male that was neutered and up to date on shots for $20 and a bag a cat litter (my way of helping the pound out). Good luck finding a pup and remember to have them spayed or neutered.

depending on how much money u have to spend dictates where u can go. if u have an idea of a particular breed u r interested in i would go to that specific breeder. as these will 9 out of 10 times give u the best results. if not check out the animal shelters dont be afraid to look around as opposed to gettin the first u see. as they all look cute at that age, think about the space, time and walks u can give the dog as all breeds differ, the internet is prob the best source to investigate or an animal worker.

Puppies are adorable, but don't forget they grown up to be dogs!
Your search should focus on what kind of dog will fit into your family, it's temperament, disposition and overall health. Puppies will require training, vaccines, socialization and your attention to puppy-proofing your house.
Consider getting a little older than puppy, usually they are housetrained, their dispositions are well established and they are the ones that always seem to get overlooked in favor of puppies.

One place that you DON'T want to get one is as a pet store. Puppies in pet stores usually come from puppy mills, and that's very sad. We have three dogs, and our female just had puppies, and I could never stand it if one of them ended up in a puppy mill somewhere.

Check out local shelters. Also, only buy puppies from reputable breeders, never a pet shop. Too many pet shop puppies come from puppy mills. You can see if your state has a breeders association, you can contact AKC, and you can watch your local newspaper pet section

most animal shelters have puppies ( months, but thats still a puppy) you should ttly get from the shelter because the dog will be more loyal because you saved him. also check vets people will put up pets they are selling all the time. petfinder.com also works.

Go to a responsible animal shelter. Some have a back where puppies and small dogs are.

The animal shelters have puppies but they go pretty fast. The one in our area takes names and preferences and calls if a puppy that meets that description comes in.
