you can't get true anti-depressants over the counter. You need a prescription. Your physician can prescribe anti-depressants. There are many now that come in the generic form and are not very expensive. I took Prozac several years ago and it truly made me feel like there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Depression is horrible, but you can feel better.

Real anti-depressants require a prescription. There are all sorts of 'homeopathic' remedies for everything, but unfortunately theres no real evidence that they actually work. In order to be considerred homeopathic, they cannot have ANY active ingredients.
If you feel that it would be beneficial for you to be on anti-depressents then make an appointment to see your doctor. You don't have to go to a shrink, though he may suggest it. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Just make an appointment and tell them that it's for a private consultation. Anti-depressants like prozac and zoloft have helped many people start to enjoy their lives again, and may help you.

Anti-dpressants are by prescription only. You need to be carefully monitored while on these pills. See a psychiatrist if you think you need them. But personally I believe therapy will do a lot more good than pills. Talk to a therapist first. Psychiatrists will easily dish out pills even if you don't really need them. And even if you do get put on pills you need therapy because pills will not make your problems go away. Only you can.
As for home remedies try looking for herbal type things. Never tried any of them but some people say they work. But again you still have issues you're going to need to work out,

St Johns Worts has been known to help some people with mild depression. Yeah you can work on depression from home, but it depends on how severe it is. If it's really severe then I would suggest getting clinical help. However, you can try this book, "The Feeling good Handbook" by David Burns, I usually recommend it to my moderately depressed clients

If you want a drug to help with depression seek a doctor. I myself take two anti-depressants, Lithium and Gabapentin. Without them I would be so very moody. And not a very nice person. Believe me they work. And if someone says different they only know how it affected them since these meds work differently on different people. Plus while taking these drugs you should be seen by a psychiatrist. Wish you the best!

Generally, no, although there is something called "St. John's Wort" that you can get OTC that seems to help some people. Other than (or in addition) to medicine try to do some or all of the following: exercise, eat properly, go for long walks, talk to close friends and family, get more involved in your hobbies, keep a journal, draw, paint, write --- it'll all help.

Please don't self diagnose. See your doctor. There are many reasons to feel depressed. Your doctor needs to rule out things like thyroid problems or other things before you are medicated and therapy is required along with medication if mental health problems are diagnosed..Fighting for 10 yrs now..Excellent shrink required !!! (not JUST PILLS)
