I am 47 years old. The past month or so, my hips have been hurting, and nothing seems to bring relief. I've tried Celebrex, Aleve, Naproxin, and Excederine. My next step is going to the doctor. I had a hysterectomy end of June. I don't know if there is any connection, maybe there is. Has anyone had pain in their hips as I described, and actually found out what it could be? It's really starting to affect my quality of life. All I feel like doing is laying down and resting.

Go to your doctor and get some xrays. It could be lots of things...arthritis, loss of cartalidge, any number of other problems.

I have had chronic pain in my hips for years the last few years it has gotten really bad and now I have to use a wheelchair or if I am having a good day a walker. Am scheduled for hip replacement in Jan. it is supposed to relieve the pain. I wish I had done it several years ago when the Doc first suggested it as now I have limited mobility and poor quality of life.

When you day lay down to rest put a pillow between your knees and don't sleep flat on your back as this can throw the hips out of allignment. Also until you can get to the doc, try to avoid stairs, ladders etc. as these things put extra stress on the joints. Also squatting and bending can increase pain just as sitting or standing for too long can. Also try to not let your legs get too cold as this can also cause more pain.

If you find out you do have arthritis the best thing I have found for some relief is Etodolac your doctor will need to prescribe it.

I hope some of this helps. Good Luck.

Could it be bursitis? I have it in both my shoulders and only 600 mg of ibuprofen will relieve it. Repetitive movements over a period of time (from a few months, to years and years) can cause the bursae in your body (which are scattered around at various joints) to become inflamed and lack the lubricating fluid that normally causes our joints to work painlessly, causing the bursae to rub together and cause a great deal of pain. I developed bursitis after being on a cleaning crew and doing various jobs such as vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping every night for about eight months...plus before that I had worked in a daycare where I lifted babies and young children every day. So if you have done any repetitive movements over the years, it could possibly cause that. The hips and shoulders are famous places for bursitis to develop. Ask your doctor. Hope you feel better soon! Try that ibuprofen and see if it helps. Good luck.
