It used to be French but no one could understand them so they switched to English in 1946.

Usually French, but like many large cosmopolitan cities there are many other languages spoken. If you were to visit and wanted to buy anything or navigate around using maps and signs etc you would need to know French and no other language is of great use. Some English here and there for all those who have not bothered to learn any French at all though!
