I went to go donate blood today, and they ended up turning me away for a pulse of 109

I am a teenager and I am 6ft tall and weigh 145lbs.

I dont play sports or anything, but I'm skinny. I notice that I somewhat have low stamina so running is a pain in the butt!

Sometimes when I'm in air conditioned rooms, my hands are very cold so they're unpleasant to touch.

Am I unhealthy? Should I go to the doctor to get checked out or something? and If so, what kinds of tests should I have them run on me?

yeah, I've had this "problem?" for years now. I probably tried to donate 5 times, but only was able to do it once only because I forced the nurse to take my pulse over and over again while I held my breath to slow down my heart so it would reach teh 100 pulse cutoff mark.

Nothing bad happened at all, in fact I was probably a bit hyper afterwards for just being happy that I was able to do it at all.

Your weight is quite low for your height. A pulse of 109 could mean anything from being nervous to being hyperthyroid to having a fever, as well as a host of other reasons. The lack of stamina is an indication that something is awry in your condition.

A check-up would be a very good idea to make sure there is no real problem and to put your mind at rest. You should still be having an annual exam but this would be a good time for an extra one even if you are being seen.

You should not be the one to suggest what tests to run and neither should folks on Answers. Your job is to give all of your symptoms and concerns and let the doctor decide. Mention things like the rapid pulse, called "tachycardia", the difficulty running, the lack of stamina, the cold extremities, and anything else you've noticed. You've mentioned you are "skiiny" which for the ht and wt is obvious, but do you eat plenty and not gain or is there a problem with your appetite?

You can expect them to take your vital signs and it's proably likely they will do a screening blood test. When you make the appointment, try to talk to a nurse, not just a scheduler, and ask if you should come in fasting if they would want to do certain labs. That might save you an extra trip. Be sure to take a snack if this is the case to eat immediately afterward.

And good for you for trying to donate blood! Hopefully you can try again when this is cleared up. Many good-hearted donors have found health issues they did not know they had in their generous act. I used to work for a blood bank and we rejected many people who got treated and became regular donors.

One lady had high blood pressure so bad she was sent by ambulance to the hospital and who had no idea she was ill, Her BP was 230/118.Untreated, she could have had a stroke at any minute. On medication, she was protected and could even donate blood.

Yeah, you should get checked out at the doctor's office if you are concerned about it. Explain your situation and the symptoms you just listed and then they'll probably ask you a lot more questions, check your vital signs and do an assessment on you. They may want to draw some blood or do other tests (complete blood count, EKG) You may be a little dehydrated or you may be anemic. Were you anxious at all about giving blood or had you just done any kind of activity? Even just moderate walking can get your heart rate up a little. It isn't unusual for teenagers to have a slightly elevated heart rate, but if you are concerned definitly talk to someone about it, maybe bring up your concerns with your parents. And kudos to you for wanting to give blood. Not many people are willing to go through with it even though it can save the lives of other people!

145lbs. is thin for a person as tall as you are. A pulse of 109 could be caused by several things. If you had just walked into the donation center and they took your pulse it might be elevated. They are supposed to let you sit and wait for a few minutes.

You need to go to a doctor and have him check you out,but I think you have a low blood pressure which would cause all these things. II'm not a doctor or anything but a good diet with plenty of vegies might help rise it to a good level. i think the word for it is hyperthyroidism

You could have a blood test for a faulty Thyroid gland. This may explain your heart rate, and body build. Your Thyroid could be overactive. I am not a Doctor, but I have had this problem.

Neither. what's maximum possibly is that Fox has "low counsel voters" who do no longer be conscious of a actuality from an opinion and who do no longer be conscious of a thank you to do their very own learn. The U.S. media are right this moment being monopolized by way of a dwindling style of discern companies, all of whom have conservative economic agendas. The media additionally are severely based upon companies for advertising. as a outcome, the information in simple terms approximately thoroughly ignores company crime, besides as professional-exertions and professional-client themes. Surveys of reporters coach that the ordinary public have been individually liberal interior the Eighties, yet right this moment they are centrists, with extra conservatives than liberals on economic themes. even nonetheless, no learn has shown that they supply their very own bias to the information. on the different hand, the political spectrum of pundits -- who do interact in noisy editorializing -- leans heavily to the fabulous. the main severe occasion of it incredibly is talk radio, the place liberals are in simple terms approximately nonexistent. The equity Doctrine grew to become into designed to dodge one-sided bias interior the media by way of requiring broadcasters to air opposing perspectives. It as quickly as enjoyed the extensive help of the two liberals and conservatives. yet now that the media have become increasingly extra owned and controlled by way of agencies, conservatives defiantly oppose the equity Doctrine. it incredibly is in all likelihood the final evidence that the media's bias is conservative, no longer liberal.

I think you are fine and completely normal. If you feel as if something is wrong, then I would suggest seeing a doctor and being specific in what you tell him/her. Also, since you aren't a regular exercise-er (like um... me!) whach what you consume, and be careful about getting too lazy. Good luck!

Yes, schedule a physical exam with your doctor and let him or her decide which tests to run. Don't worry about trying to figure it out for yourself - that's what you pay the doctor for.
