The invasion of Belgium had as effect that England declared the war to Germany because England was the protector of Belgium at that moment.
Luxembourg was also invaded at the same moment as Belgium because Germany needed the space to develop there Von Schlieffer plan.

The answer of General De Witte is the completest.

To Westlake, please tell your World History teacher to have some supplementary study. A teacher that does not even know how the two power blocks (Central and Entente Cordiale) triggered the WWI and does not even know that Belgium and Luxemburg were neutral countries that where in the way of the German attack, does not deserve the title of History teacher.

I think you mean world war 1. Anyways it happened because of entangling alliances. On June 28th 1914 the Archduke Ferdinand was assinated in Sarajevo by one of the members of the Black Hand. Which caused a domino effect of attacks. Basically If Germany attacks France, because they go through Beligum, Beligum will attack Germany. And Since Germany is being attacked by Beligum, Luxemberg will attack and so on. By the end of the war it was all blamed on Germany because they kept fighting through all the muck.

It certainly didn't teach anyone any lessons.
So, there was WW2.
And again, no lessons there!
Now, we are doing it in small doses. Vietnam, Iraq, Bosnia, Afganistan, the list is endless.
So is the list of full plastic bags coming back from those places.
Young people's and their familie's dreams are coming back in plastic bags.
But still, no lessons.....

...and some are laughing all the way to their banks!
