everytime my little cousins come in from outdoors my grandmother always tells them that they need to take a bath because they're walking around smelling like po-cats. I don't know if that's even the right spelling for it.

Oh, think you mean Pole Cat.

The website says that the polecat used to be called a 'foul mart' because of its strong smell.

Hmm, think that your little cousins might have just been a little stinky. lol

What you are talking about is an animal called a pole-cat. It looks kind of like a really skinny raccoon or a ferret with a long black and white striped tail. They don't smell very pleasant, even if they are cute. Sometimes called miner's cat or ringtail.

That is I think a Southern expression for a skunk. So it's not a specific species of animal.

I think that what your grandmother referred to was "polecats". This was an old fashioned name for what we call skunks.

A 'polecat' is a weasle, and skunks are also called polecats. I don't know of a poe-cat.
