That is the question we all ask ourselves at one time in our life. I am 52 and everytime I have fallen in love I believed it was real love....and guess what...it was real. We change, we go through different phases in our life...Our needs at 16 are totally different at 20, then again at 30. I think everything happens for a reason and I believe it is because we eventually fall in love enough times to eventually get it right.....to eventually know ourselves well enough to know what it is that makes us trully happy, and to know that you have to have a basis for comparison, so if you always questioned what love was, you would never know what really makes you happy. You would be forever asking questions, forever making compromises. Life is a journey, you just have to be open to everything. Anything is possible and if you feel love for a person, then its real. There is nothing more real than your own feelings. People may question why you feel that way, but sometimes feelings dont have any logic, they just are. There are no rules for loving someone, they are your own personal feelings and no-one has to agree with you. Feelings are the only things that we really only ever trully own. It doesnt matter that someone may agree or disagree, you cannot change the way you feel. Only with experience can you decide to make choices based on your needs, but you need to fall in love for you to know what love is. Everything is a lead up to knowing what it is that makes you trully and utterly happy. You have to be open to taking a chance if you are ever going to know what it is that makes you whole.
I can only go by my own experiences, and I would suggest many other people as well. I have been in love many times in my life. I am now at a point where I do know what love is.....for me that is. Maybe my idea of love is not someone elses. I just know what makes me happy. I know what kind of man I need in my life now, but I would have never found that out if I hadnt loved before.

I will put it to you like this. Its like the fourth quarter 10 seconds left in the superbowl. Game is all tied up and you have the ball. All emotions running through your body when the quarterback throws the ball to the endzone. That my friend is love

You will know it when it happens. You cant stand to be apart from one another, your in each others thoughts, they make you happy, and they are someone you could give your heart to and love the rest of your life.

I think it is just instinct. You have awonderful feeling all the time and you can't get that person out of your head. But, remember love is just a feeling and you won't always feel that strong! Not that you can't always love the same person forever, it's just a different kind of love!

If you were in love with someone, the question would never arise in your head whether you do or not. If you have to ask, then it's most likely "no".
