there are some variables, Like what year Trans. your going to & from and Yes you must match the pilot bgr to the input shaft of the trany. If its a auto trans motor it wont have any pilot bgr. in the crank shaft.
The changes of the tranny is probably a higher ratio over all, so your hole shot wont be better but your gas mileage will be better than a normal 3 speed.
But remember It's built for a 4 cyl NOT a hot rod 302
The real Question is Why you want to.

ok shhh people I will answer this. Ok ave off the tranny's are the same exept for two things. The input shaft that goes into the pilot bushing is smaller. Then the gears are not as strong as the V8 transmissions. Your tranny will only hold up to 220 torque while the V8 tranny holds up to 260 to 300 torque. Depends on the model of the car and year. The motor im giving you will destroy that transmission but if you want we can buy the pilot bushing that will mate that tranny to the 5.0 ^_^

What exactly is the point to your question? More importantly, WHAT EXACTLY ARE YOU ASKING? I assume you are referring to a Mustang. Wherever or whomever told you, you could use a transmission out of a 4 cylinder is full of s***. Yes, it's true they are both Borg-Warner transmissions, but the one that goes behind a 4 cylinder is designed specifically for that. If the intended purpose is to facilitate locating another transmission, or save on the cost of getting one for the 8 cylinder, the answer is NO. You would destroy the transmission in no time if you even manage to be able to have it installed. Spend the money, and get the proper transmission for your application. Believe me, you'll save yourself a lot of grief in the long run.

Like good times said, you can do it, but the transmission is just not strong enough to last behind the 302.

its a ford...kind of hard to say...Im guessing you will gain more stall...but on a 4 cyl...don't think you'll gain anything.
