Yes. I've done tabling with an atheist group. I have bumper stickers on my car. If someone asks about my religion, I tell them I'm an atheist. I tell people about Richard Dawkins' book, "The God Delusion". I answer religious questions here.

I'm an atheist, but I don't care enough about other people's religious beliefs to talk them out of it. Why? It's fun to watch them, every day, trying to reconcile their theology with political correctness.

Do you know how badly Christianity is in conflict with Judaism? I'll bet that most Christians don't, or they'd not pretend that Jews are their "elder brothers in faith" or some such rot. Talmudic Judaism is, from the standpoint of pure Christian belief, a blasphemy.

The Talmud asserts, among other things, that Jesus did miracles by sorcery [Sanhedrin 43a] and not by the power of the Holy Ghost, and that's what the New Testament avers to be the Unforgivable Sin [Matthew 12:32, Mark 3:28, Luke 12:10].

There is no way to reconcile Judaism with Christianity, but because the Christians don't really understand Judaism... and I often doubt whether they really understand Christianity, either... they try, try, try to be nice to the Jews, meekly accepting arrogant scorn from them that they'd never tolerate from atheists.

Why should I do anything to bring to an end such an amusing spectacle? If a Christian wants me to explain why the god-idea isn't necessary to account for existence, or for the universe, then I will. But unless one asks, I'm not about to take the trouble.

It depends on what your goals are, Kathryn.

If you would be satisfied knowing that you had talked some not very committed or devout or informed religious people out of holding to a set of doctrinal tenets, then the way to go would be reading and applying the works of Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Daniel Dennett. I assume you've already done this.

Yet, I'm afraid you'll just be banging your head against the proverbial brick wall if you want to change the minds of people (of any faith, not just Christian) who know, that they know, that they know that "there's Someone out there" because of personal experiences they've had. It would be tantamount to a sightless man hopping up and down and screaming, "YOU'RE blind, because I can't see."

The prospects are much more promising if your goal is to free the U.S. from the stranglehold of the Religious Right, puppeteered by irreligious Neoconservatives who courted them, and then called them "goofballs" behind their back after the state-sponsored "prayer breakfasts" at the White House were over.

The results of the neocons' spectacular defeat at the polls this week cannot be attributed to atheists, who are the first to admit they make up only 5% of the population.

We Christians were told by Jesus to be "as harmless as doves but shrewd as serpents." Collectively, if not individually, we've failed on both counts in being sucked up into the Neoconservative drive to have America dominate the world. (It all has to do with 'being a friend to Jerusalem,' don't you know, and all good Christians are supposed to do that, even if it involves blowing up with wild abandon Lebanese, Iranians, Iraqis and anyone else who has a beef with Israel<------IRONY alert, IRONY alert.)

The exit polls demonstrate that people of faith in the U.S. may be getting shrewder, and hopefully, more harmless. That may make your campaign to convert them to atheism unneccessary, from the standpoint of security and peace.

The problem with the term "atheism" is that it's far too broad. Are we talking about weak atheism, which is really more like agnosticism, or strong atheism (Atheism), which is complete and total conviction that there is/are no God/gods? Are we talking about people who just don't really care about anything religious/spiritual, or people who treat their Atheism very seriously? Are we talking about just straight atheists, or humanists, or Satanists (yes, Satanists are, for the most part, atheistic), or Buddhists that don't acknowledge any gods? You see, it's just too broad. Perhaps by "atheism" you simply mean critical thought, or a rejection of faith? Please clarify, because if your definition of atheism is anything like mine, I would be VERY much interested in spreading the word. Send me a message, please, because I'm interested in talking about this (if you are).

Don't use the annoying christian approach. What I do is not flaunt it. I just go around, living my life like a normal person, and when it comes up, I tell them strait forward what I believe. People will like the way you live your life and the confidence that you have (not the need to have something to physically hold on to like a cross or a t-shirt). By doing that, I've had a number of people say "you know what, that makes sense."

Agnostic or aethism are choices in religion.

You have the right to believe in any religion or lack of. However I feel that any religion is a personal choice.

Think carefully, and more importantly think for yourself. Pick your religion (or lack of) and practice it.

Discussion your religion with others is ok if the others are like minded. However religious conversations with others can become heated.

Believe what you want.. and leave others to thier beliefs.

you shouldn't be trying "to spread the good word of atheism"... you need let people figure it out, people will get the wrong impression of you... (trying to covert them!! no...no...)

and never take away someones hope or faith, because that might be the only thing they have.

Tell me the good word first, then I might be able to help you with the idea. I can't think of a good word off hand.

Yeah, don't talk about religion, and don't visit the Religion and Spirituality section of Yahoo Answers. That's spreading the word of atheism.
