You can tell your mom that you're depressed, but she cannot make the decision of whether you need meds or not. Only a doctor can prescribe them; and he won't prescribe them just because you tell him. He has to determine just how depressed you are, or if you are even depressed. You might just be stressed, or going through some teenage blues.

Your mother may well suspect that something isn't right. Before you get into the heavy prescriptions, try some of the herbal or homoeopathic mood enhancers. They're much easier on the body without all the side effects. St. John's Wort is excellent for mild depression.
Remember though that everyone gets depressed or blue and some point. Keeping active and actively searching for things to interest you can help you through many emotional slumps.
So talk to your mother, then talk to a doctor and if you don't like the first one you go to find someone you do feel comfortable with.
Good luck

Depression is a very serious issue, which should be taken care of asap with counseling or medication. I went thru this myself, so i do know what you are going thru. It took me a long time to get to the point of telling someone of this. Just talk to her let herknow how you are feeling, medication may not be the answers, i had taken medication for the longest time, and the i had seeked counseling, i dont have depression i had once i feel little better but my depression is brought on by my genes and DNA, hopefully you can get help with counselling first, medication is always a last resort.

FIRST, you need to tell your mom you are depressed and want to see a counselor about it. THEN talk to the counselor about the anti-depressants. You do NOT want to start on them unless you are TRULY Clinically Depressed which is a chemical imbalance in the brain that the anti-depressants correct. If you are NOT Clinically Depressed you can NOT get anti-depressants.

It might be a good idea to let your mother know your feelings and you are considering taking anti depressants. Then you should sit down with your doctor and your mother and weight the pros and cons of taking the medication. You may find that you may just need to change a few thing in your life and perhaps not have to take the drugs.
But please talk to someone. Do not keep the feelings all to yourself.

This is a discussion you should have with a professional and your mother at the same time. A diagnosis of depression is not that simple. Dysthymia, major depression, bi polar depression are all types of depression and require different meds. See a doc or counsellor, and sometimes meds are not the answer but therapy is. Good luck.

just say, mom, i a feeling depressed & it isn't going away. i need to go to the doctor & get this taken care of before it gets any worse.
pretty basic... good luck...
if you cry- dont worry. that is normal. she might cry too. you never know, but most of all she will be glad that you are comming to her first!!!
by the way, if she says you don't need meds, etc then make your own appointment to see the doctor & go yourself. have them send a bill to your house if you can't pay for the co-pay yourself. then, tell your mom what the doctor said & get a part time job to pay for the meds yourself. sometimes you have to take care of yourself & pull some strings. but, hopefully it won't go that way!!!

Tell her you need to go see a doctor. You are depressed. Don't tell her you want to take anti-depressants. Tell her you need help. Then, when you see the doctor, talk to him/her about antidepressants.

Tell her that you have been feeling very down latley, and you just dont know why. Say that you have been looking and asking around school about ani-depressants
and just ask her if she might think it would be a good idea to start you on them
you going to have to go to a physciatrist to get them, but it will help you

You need to just sit down and talk with her. If she's a good mom, she'll understand that you may need help. Therapy will help in your depression.
