It was more that that singular protest. The tax on the tea was not the issue. It was a statement....meant to show the king that they would not stand by and allow themselves to be bullied into submission. He was trying to cut out the colonial merchants by allowing British companies a monopoly to sell tea to the colonist and cut out the colonial middlemen. In return the colonists boycotted tea and British ships had to return having not sold their tea. The colonists were only insited to recall earlier injustices and push forth ion their disgust of taxation without representation!

We had just gone over this in my history class oh too kool ok i have so much info.
-The sons of liberty and Sammuel Adams want to peotest the tea act. So they had met and decided to plain a night raid on British merchant ships in boston harbor. They planned to discuise themselves as the Mohawk indians and then dump boxes of British tea that were located on the ships into the water. (The water in boston harbor supposedly turned brown because of all the tea dumped into it)
