I am 26 weeks pregnant, almost 27. About 2 weeks ago, I started having contractions so they put me on terbutaline. Earlier in my pregnancy, I had noticed a big lump on the upper right part of my uterus, which my OB explained as Piskacek's sign. It means my uterus never really fused. So now they are thinking that this is the reason for my pre-term labor. He said he did npt expect me to carry my daughter full term, but as long as I made it past 30 weeks, the prognosis was pretty good. I am now worried that this could affect future pregnancies. We do want anther child, but I do not want to have the same problems, or potentially worse ones. I am also worried about my possibly preemie daughter. Anyone know about this kinda stuff? Could really use some reassurance here :-(

She said SHE DOES want more children. If i was you after i had my daughter and he cleaned you up and everything I'd just ask him point blank if you could have other children.....and it be okay? or you could wait til your six week after apt. Til then id try to lay around as much as possible cause you really need to get to at least 30 weeks....goodluck to you and congratuattions on your future daughter:)

I know a bit about this stuff :)

Ok, to start, Piskacek's sign is not related to abnormalities of your uterus. This is from an online medical dictionary:

"PISKACEK'S SIGN
asymmetry of the uterus with a well-defined soft prominence of the cornu, due to implantation near one of the cornua"

which is to say you have a soft bump on one of the top 'corners' of your uterus due to a placenta being there.

From your description it sounds like you may have a bicornuate uterus, which is the uterus not being normally shaped. Instead of being pear shaped it is heart shaped, so it looks like it is not totally fused.

It is quite possible that a bicornuate uterus would give you a 'lump' predominately on one side, because one side has baby and the other side does not. Do you understand? It is hard to visualize I know.

Have you had ultrasounds done? This shows up on ultrasounds. The extent of the divide of the uterus (known as the septum), can determine how long you carry the pregnancy. I have had clients with bicornuate uteri and they went nearly to term.

Women with bicornuate uteri are at increased risk for preterm labour, and if you have a bicornuate uterus, that will still be the case for future pregnancies.

I would ask your doctor if this is the 'not fused uterus malformation' you have. Also have you had your steroid shots to help the baby's lungs mature?

Does this help at all? Feel free to email me if I can further clarify (my brain is a bit mush tonight).
