California's driving age is still 16..BUT you must not drive after 11:00 P.M. you can not drive with anyone in your car unless someone is a licenced driver over the age of 25. {This means no picking friends up for school or movies etc} You may drive siblings to and from school with a note from your parents..you may drive home from work after 11:00 P.M. with a note from your boss. This is for 1 year..has cut teen driving accidents way down.

15 1/2 for a learner's permit (with restrictions), 16 for a license. However, at 16 with a license you're not allowed to have any other under-18 people in the car after 10PM without an adult also being in there. After 18 there are no such restrictions.

Many years ago, you can drive at 16 with a permit. Now-a-days, you have to be 18 to drive. They don't even have a drivers-ed class in high school anymore.
