Some Sony DVD's have a copy-protection system that deliberately creates a number of sectors on the DVD with corrupted data that causes DVD copying software to produce errors. Another copy protection system that is used, and not just limited to Sony DVD's is CSS, or Content Scrambling System.

The programs AnyDVD, Fengtao Software's DVDFab Decrypter and MacTheRipper (freeware) are usually able to overcome ARccOS protection.

CSS decrypting software (such as DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD, and DVD Shrink) allows a region-specific DVD to be copied as an all-region DVD. It also removes Macrovision, Content Scrambling System (CSS), region codes, and disabled user operations (UOPs).
