and i dont mean the american indians i mean the ones from India.

They're called bindi (or tilaka), and traditionally they weren't jewels but a colored mark. Again, traditionally speaking, it's a sign marital status, caste membership or religious affiliation. These days, it could be that or simply a fashion statement.

They're called bindis. There are those red dots or the pretty jewel like bindis. The red dots are not cheaper substitutes, i think they have a religious significance. The jewel like bindis are seen as jewellery. All Indian women can wear them, whether married or not. They're not embedded into the skin. They're like stickers. The ones sold in England aren't so good from personal experience. My grandma bought me some from India, they're so beautiful and last for ages. I sometimes wear them out clubbing, it makes me feel like an Indian princess!!lol!

The dot worn on the forehead is a religious symbol. It represents divine sight and shows that one is a Hindu. For women, it is also a beauty mark.

Since it is specifically a Hindu practice, I would have to say that "Indians" do not wear them....as many Indians are Muslim.
