He didn't want God to show compassion on the Ninevites if they would repent. That is why he ran away in the first place. (which is another way of saying that he disobeyed God). Once he got to Nineveh he proved to be an effective prophet, but he was still not happy that those in Nineveh would get a chance to repent.

Jonah 4:2 He prayed to the Lord and said, "Please Lord, was not this what I said while I was still in my own country? Therefore in order to to forestall this I fled to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, and one who relents concerning calamity."

I guess it would be like us not wanting anyone to "get off the hook", for doing something wrong, even though they repented.

He was under the law, which oppresses(depresses).

god called him from sabbath ,so he thought break sabbath or obey god
he tried so hard to not break sabbath but then chose to obey god
