I have only ever given my 2 year old son milk or water to drink. Lately he has noticed my husband drinking orange juice, and has been interested in trying it. I gave him some in a sippy cup with ice, hoping that the ice would melt and water it down a bit. He drank it long before that happened though!

Is it bad to give a 2 year old orange juice? Does orange juice have more nutritive value than say, apple juice? What kinds of juices do you give, and do you water them down?

juice is very poor nutritionally, and contains more sugar and less fiber than eating fruit. We do drink some juice, and I occasionally give some to my son who is 16 months old, but he gets it watered down a lot. It is technically OK to give to him, I suppose.

There really is no need to give your son juice. Juices are so full of sugar. The best nutrition comes from the fresh fruit. My 3-year old daughter's pediatrician and dentist advised me not to give her any juice because she had the start of tooth decay, even though I was faithfully brushing and flossing her teeth. Every now and then she gets it for a treat, watered down.

It is OK to give orange juice.

I think that OJ is better than apple because apple has more sugar.

At 2 you can give straight juice. Stick with real juices like apple, OJ, grapefruit. The others have a lot of sugar. Read the labels and make sure that sugar is not on the label. Natural sugar is enough for them and really sweet as it is.

Juice is fine but remember moderation! There is so much sugar in juice. It is healthier to eat the fruit and I am not saying juice is bad, just that it gets a little over done. Oh and if you want more info on juice, try the site below.
Good luck.

Yes, it's fine for him to drink. I waited a bit (18 months or so) before I gave OJ to my daughter since it's acidic and could give her heartburn. I normally dilute her juices with 1/2 water but I don't dilute OJ because it tastes bitter (to me) when I do that. She loves it. Be careful if you use a sippy cup and the OJ has pulp. It'll clog the cup and make the child MAD! LOL

at the start, your milk isn't sufficient as long as you're supplementing with formulation. Breastmilk is on a "furnish and insist" foundation. because of the fact the milk is got rid of via infant the breasts will fill the call for via imparting extra. Orange juice is very acidic and that i've got in no way heard a doctor advise it for a baby decrease than 1yr of age. it is going to probable disillusioned your infant's abdomen! you could initiate off rice cereal now and combine it inclusive of your breastmilk, formulation or juice (like white grape decrease in 0.5 with water). next, (in 2 or 3 weeks) try Oatmeal cereal. Then some weeks after which you will try some end result and vegetables. stable success!

orange juice is perfectly fine to give your 2 year old. I diluted juices for my kids because of the sugar levels...just mix it with water.

Citrus juices are good to give your 2 year old. You might want to dilute them with water (half and half) until you see how he tolerates it. To up the nutritional value, you can give him one of the brands that contrains extra calcium or other vitamins.
