I'm a long time dieter. Over the past few years I've lost a lot of weight and kept most of it off. 3 weeks ago I started dieting again (I count calories, I never go below 1400 in one day) to lose those last few pounds. But this time it's not going well. The first week was fine, but since then I've been pretty sick. I can't get full. If I eat less than 3000 cals, I'm so hungry that I get faint, I shake, I'm dizzy and nauseous. My fingers are really swollen. I'm extremely exhausted. I'm sure it could be unrelated, but considering everything I think it is probably related to the dieting. Any thoughts?

Definitely keep watch of you sugar levels. This could be factor as well as minerals and intake of vitamin levels. Best to you! :-)=

I don't know dear, but from what you say i agree it sounds pretty confusing. If you are eating as much as 3000 cals a day and can't seem to get full, the only thing I can say is, its clearly either medical or psychological. In the first case, go see your doctor: When was your last physical? Have you tested for thyroid? Diabetes? Take a good look at your health, and get the advice of a licensed medical professional.

If its not physical (organic) then maybe its psychological. maybe you're exerting too much strain on yourself to shed these extra few pounds. Also, perhaps you are stressing about something and you are (unknown to the conscious you) taking it out on yourself by "filling yourself up" with food...

Which leads me to the question:
What are you eating? Are your meals balanced, or are you neglecting an important food group --- like protein or carbs?

If your fingers are swollen, then something is making you retain water.

Are you drinking "diet" sodas? Maybe the aspartame is bothering you. If you do drink "diet" sodas, quit, and monitor yourself.

If you've been sick (recovering from the flu, or just plain over-exhaustion because of work, school, whatever) your regular diet plan may not be sufficient for your constitution.

Above all, STOP "dieting" --- first of all, if you are covering about 3000 cals a day, you're not on a diet anyway --- unless you work or exercize in a manner that burns all that off. So just give yourself a break, try to calm down so that your body can also relax, and go see a doctor. You may be overworked, stressed, and your body may just not be reacting well to the diet you're on now...

TAKE CARE!!

You may be a diabetic. Check with your doctor. (sounds like type 2 if it is.)
